Life at El Nido

Relax at the pool

Our pool is the heart of El Nido's social life. Surrounded by tropical gardens and shaded lounging areas, it's the perfect spot to cool off between activities, read a book, or simply float and chill waterfall and birds.

Morning coffee by the pool? Evening sunset dips? Yes and yes.

Walk to the beach

El Nido is just a short walk from Uvita's stunning beaches, including the famous Whale's Tail formation at Marino Ballena National Park. Whether you're surfing, snorkeling, or simply watching the sunset, the Pacific Ocean is your backyard.

Covered open-air spaces

We designed El Nido with Costa Rica's climate in mind. Our covered, open-air spaces let you enjoy the fresh air and natural light while staying protected from rain and sun. Dine under the stars, practice yoga with jungle views, or gather around the fire pit for evening conversations.

Multiple gathering zones

From intimate corners for solo reflection to large communal areas for group activities, El Nido offers spaces for every mood. The yoga studio, recording studio, dining area, pool deck, and fire pit each have their own energy and purpose.

Local & seasonal cuisine

Food at El Nido celebrates Costa Rica's incredible bounty. We partner with local chefs and work with local farmers and fishermen to create nourishing, flavorful meals using seasonal ingredients. Whether you're vegan, pescatarian, or omnivore, we'll craft menus that fuel your body and delight your senses.

Think fresh tropical fruits, locally caught fish, organic vegetables, and traditional Costa Rican dishes with a modern twist. Meals are served family-style to encourage connection and conversation.

Life at El Nido is waiting

Our Story

El Nido was born from a shared dream between Adi and Matthew Westerman—a vision to create a grounded, soulful space for real-life transformation. After relocating to Costa Rica with their two daughters, the couple brought their unique blend of experience and passion to the jungle.

About Adi

Adi is a seasoned yoga teacher with over 20 years of experience leading transformative retreats and classes around the world. As the founder of Hot Yoga Asheville, she built a thriving community centered on empowerment, growth, and authentic connection.

Her approach to yoga goes beyond the physical practice—it's about creating spaces where people feel safe to explore, heal, and transform. At El Nido, Adi brings her deep understanding of what makes a retreat truly impactful: intentional space-holding, nourishing community, and the freedom to simply be.

When she's not teaching or hosting retreats, you'll find Adi exploring Costa Rica's waterfalls, practicing Spanish with locals, or dreaming up new ways to support people on their wellness journeys.

Adi's Specialties:

  • Vinyasa and power yoga
  • Hot 26 and Expand (Adi's Signature Class)
  • Holosomatic breathwork
  • Retreat design and facilitation
  • Empowerment and personal growth work
  • Community building
  • Business leadership

About Mathew

Matthew is a musician and skilled builder who brings creativity, sustainability, and soul to everything he touches. His vision for El Nido was to create a space that honors the land's natural beauty while providing modern comfort and functionality.

As a musician, Matthew understands the creative process intimately. He designed El Nido's recording studio and spaces with artists in mind—places where inspiration flows naturally and the environment supports deep work. His use of salvaged materials, natural elements, and thoughtful design reflects his commitment to sustainability and authenticity.

Matthew's musical background infuses El Nido with rhythm and harmony. Whether he's building a new structure, fine-tuning the studio, or playing music by the fire pit, his presence reminds everyone that creativity and craftsmanship are forms of meditation.

Matthew's Specialties:

  • Sustainable building and design
  • Drumming and songwriting
  • Creating spaces that inspire creativity
  • Blending art and functionality
El Nido was designed as a space where people could land, reconnect, and rise. Adi and Matthew combined their unique gifts—her expertise in yoga and retreat leadership, his skills in music and building—to craft a boutique hotel that feels both wild and welcoming.

The name "El Nido" means "The Nest" in Spanish. It represents our intention: to provide a place where guests can rest, reset, and remember who they are with all pressures of daily life.

We believe in the power of nature, community, and authentic experience. El Nido isn't polished or perfect—it's real. The jungle is loud, the trucks drive by, life is happening while the frogs sing at night, scarlett macaws fly by and sometimes a sloth or howler monkey wanders through.

That's exactly the point. Life here invites you to embrace the beautiful messiness of being human and alive.
